    Tamoxifen and pregnancy

I am a breast cancer survivor, five years come December 31, 2005. I am using Tamoxifen and have been for almost 5 years. I have done chemo and radiation and I had 17 lymph nodes removed, so praise to God, I am alive!!!! My question to anyone out there is this: My new husband and I are considering getting pregnant this year, before I am off of the Tamoxifen, but the only alternative that we have is for me to stop taking the medication earlier than December. Has anyone found any cases of this and that it was successful? My husband is a minister and we believe strongly that this is in God's hands and that we are to have a baby this year, but I am only human and I get a little afraid when I think of getting off the medication early to have a child and I think we have miscarried twice already. Any suggestions or places I can find research would be helpful. lexapro to buy cheap online Women are conventionally advised to stop tamoxifen before attempting pregnancy. The records from Astra Zeneca documented three live births with congenital anomalies and four live births without congenital anomalies related to tamoxifen treatment before pregnancy. Tamoxifen therapy during pregnancy resulted in 16 live births with congenital malformations and a total of 122 live births without malformations. My oncologist is advising termination but it seems to me that the studies are not conclusive that tamoxifen causes birth defects. I can understand how you may not want to terminate without conclusive evidence that it will cause birth defects. Jan 26, 2012 AM peggy_j wrote: What a difficult situation. I don't have experience with this but when I met with my new MO-referred GYNO late last year, we discussed birth control options while I'm on tamox. Have you asked your OB whether they could rule out the most serious potential defects through an NT scan? I asked what happens if I accidentally got pregnant and she said she would recommend terminating the pregnancy. Also, if you haven't already, I would definitely stop taking the Tamoxifen until you decide what to do. FWIW, I checked Pub Med and there is at least one study that shows the rates of possible congenital birth defects. I can only say that my fertility specialist recommended waiting 6 weeks after stopping Tamoxifen to try to get pregnant, so he definitely had his concerns, but I don't know if he would recommend termination. Listen to your doctors opinion, but remember they are human and don't always have the answers.
